Frequently Asked Questions
Find an answer to your question:
Are you a fiduciary?
Yes. As a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), my firm is legally required to put my clients interest before my own.
What types of clients do you work with?
I specialize in tax-efficient pre-retirement and retirement planning for employees and small business owners. My ongoing client service offering is best for those who are getting close to retirement or are in retirement. I also offer one-time flat-fee engagements for those who are in a different stage of their financial life or are DIY investors who need some guidance. A one-time engagement is charged an hourly rate.
Do you have a minimum AUM?
My clients are not charged based on AUM, but my ongoing client service offering generally makes most sense for those with $600K or more in investable assets. Others may find the hourly engagement to be just what they need as they are building their financial foundation or if they are DIY investors who need specific financial guidance from a professional.
Where will my investments be held?
We offer ongoing discretionary management of your investable assets, through accounts held in custody at Charles Schwab.
Why flat-fee instead of charging a % of AUM?
Flat-fee ensures that you are paying only for my time and expertise. As your portfolio grows based on market conditions, you will not pay me more. I structure my flat-fee service rate based on time spent working for you. There will be times when flat-fees are increased based on inflation (or based on complexity of your financial situation), but never based on market conditions.
Do you work with clients outside of the Upper Peninsula of MI?
Yes, I work with clients across the United States. I do have a physical location for face-to-face meetings with those in the area, but can fully and effectively serve clients virtually as well. Even some locals prefer virtual meetings for time efficiency.
I understand you don’t sell insurance or other financial products, but what if my financial plan requires one of these products?
There will certainly be times when I recommend a client purchase one of these products (typically for protection purposes). At that time, if you do not have a competent professional that you like to work with to serve those needs, I have a referral list of professionals I know will take great care of you. You’ll know that this recommendation was made in your best interest and not as a means to make more commission.
